Having worn out my kayano 17's after many comfortable happy miles of running when it came time for replacement I was excited to see a new version, the 18 was now available. Initially I couldn't really tell much difference which in a way I was pleased about as I'd love the 17, bit as I ran on over the weeks I noticed improved stability and that I was increasing my distances with ease, they feel lighter and more stable and a pleasure to run in - in conclusion if your a fan of the 17 you won't be disappointed or shocked by drastic changes, it's a nice progressive evolution of the shoe.

So far so good - Asics Gel Kayano 18
This is my third pair of Asics. The first was a pair of GT2170's that were awfully hard and uncomfortable, so I replaced them with the Asics Gel Kayano 17. These were excellent except for the really flimsy uppers. There was a hole in the upper over my big toe within 3 months, and by the end of 12 months, they had to be replaced because the inner lining around the heel had completely shredded. It is too soon to say whether the Kayano18's will be any better, but it seems that the toe covering on the Kayano 18 is slightly bigger than the Kayano 17 so here's hoping. I always wear my trainers with socks or thick tights, so am not sure why this happened. Apart from that, the Kayano 17 and the new Kayano 18 are supremely comfortable due to the inner sole cushioning. The balls of my feet are very sensitive from years of wearing high heels and these shoes make walking a pleasure.
