Great Purchase
I bought these boots as I was planning 2 weeks of walking in the Dartmoor National Park and in Cornwall. I didnt walk them in beforehand and they were still absolutley perfect. This is now mt third pair of Berghaus Explorer Trek walking boots, I like to have at least two pairs on the go at any one time to allow for any drying out necessary for the boots. I walk 5 times a week, over hills and put in 9 to 10 miles a day. They get a hammering as I'm out in all weathers and all times of the year.

Firstly you can guarantee that these boots, like all Berghaus boots, will fit comfortably straight out of the box. I find it not necessary to 'run them in' so to say.

Before I took to getting the Explorer Trek model I had two pairs of the Berghaus Explorer Lite's. Just as comfortable, but not quite as hard wearing. That was primarily due to the slight difference in the models insomuch as the stitching at the tow cap area of the respective types of boots. The Explorer Lite has a stitched toe cap, the Explorer Trek does not and with the hammering I give both types of boot the 'Lite' was getting badly worn, cracked and letting in water where this toe...

Great! Couldn't fault them!
These were a present for my husband who has worn them around a dozen times. On at least four occasions he has been asked where they were purchased and at least one person made him an offer for them! Great boots, fantastic value.

Good but short lived
Berghaus explorer trek bought at the end of April this year (2009) comfortable straight from the box however showed signs of wear very quickly in October one boot started to let in water and felt as if the sole was cracked.They were returned to Berghaus who expressed concern over the excess wear on the sole but agreed to replace the boots.I am light on my footwear my last boots (Moac) are still going strong after 15 plus years,my feeling is that Berghaus have sacrificed long life for comfort..but if you are happy with a short life from your boots then these are OK

Poor durability
I bought a pair of these - through Amazon - in the summer of 2009. Through the summer they were great - comfortable, good grip and waterproof. However, within 10 months of daily use walking the dogs over gentle farmland and tracks, both boots had cracked on the inner edge about the level of the second lace hole (where there is a seam)and were letting in water - even when walking through dewy grass. Inappropriate size
Hi Guys, I did return them since over sized design. My foot is 6.5 and I have used Merrell 6.5 in past which fits very well however 6.5 of this shoes is loo loose for me. I mean 1 to 1.5 cm big. Not sure if the shoe size differ with brands.
